WONDERFUL TRADITIONS IN HUMAN HISTORY -PROSTRATION AND KNEELING WHEN GREETING IN NIGERIA

This time,I will like to talk about customs and traditions of different ethnic groups around the globe.
Since the beginning of civilizations, human race have developed unique customs and traditions that differentiate them from other animals in the animal kingdom. These custom and traditions have become attitudes among so many ethic groups in the world.  Sometimes you wonder how they came into existence and how they have been maintained up till date. However, these customs are different from one ethnic group to other,we tend to find these customs and traditions on things like beauty, dressings,greetings,foods, events and ceremonies of different types. I will be posting about some popular and unpopular traditions according to my research and discoveries

PROSTRATION AND KNEELING IN GREETINGS IN NIGERIA.

As a Yoruba man. Prostration and kneeling are considered great and respectful tradition and only practiced by well trained and obedient Yoruba tribes in Nigeria. Its a way the younger folks greet the older folks amongst the Yoruba ethnic group of Nigeria. This tradition is as old as the tribes themselves. In the olden days,younger folks took it so seriously that they laid so flattened to the ground all in the name of showing respect when greeting the older folks. It is also in Yoruba custom to greet their monarchs in prostration and kneeling. The kings in Yoruba ethic group must be greeted in prostration and kneeling by all ages. Even if the person greeting the king is older than the king himself, he/she must prostrate  to greet the monarch. It is a mandatory tradition for anyone other than other kings,to greet any king in Yoruba land in prostration and in kneeling. This custom is highly respected among the Yoruba people of Nigeria and practiced till date.

It is their custom to greet  in-laws prostration and in kneeling. During marriage ceremonies, the groom and his friends must prostate to greet his in-law publicly. Prostration and kneeling in greeting is a very important and highly respected tradition and custom among the Yoruba ethic group Nigeria in Africa. It may interest you to know that only the Yoruba tribes of Nigeria practice this kind of gesture as tradition among other tribes in Nigeria, including the Binis.
