HOW TO BE A SUCCESSFUL SNAIL FARMER IN AFRICA

Achatina fulica(Giant African snail)

The Giant African Land Snail is one of the largest terrestrial gastropods.
They have a light to dark brown shells with vertical stripes of a darker shade of brown on them.
They have an average lifespan of about 5-7 years. When they have enough food, and the weather is satisfactory, they tend to live much longer. Some of them have been known to live up to 10 years.
Snails are very good source of animal proteins,very good for pregnant women for easy delivery. It is almost the best meat one can get when talking about foods that are very reach in proteins and fibers. Its limited availability offers a very lucrative entrepreneurship potentials. You can find lots of them in many villages and townships in Nigeria for example. 
Giant African snails are the best varieties to rare as they can grow as much as possible, up to 1kg. And that's a big weight for a snail. Imagine having 1000pieces of snails for sale,where each of them weighs a whooping 1kg,that would generate the farmer a lots of money as one could sell for $3-$5 depends on the market flow.
Snails can be rared on a full-time or part time basis, that depends on how big you want to venture into this lucrative farming business.
HOW TO GET STARTED
First thing first;
You must a get a space to site your Snails house(pen) maybe a plot of land
Construct a tightly closed but ventilated snails house (Pen)
Concrete the floor of your Pen
Fill the Pen with loamy soil for snails to ley their eggs
Construct drainage system around the snails house and have it contain water to prevent ants from killing your snails
Then get some snails into your snails house, say around 500-1000 depending on how big your snails house is
WHAT THEY EAT
Snails eat any edible foods without salt
They eat all kind of vegetables
Tubers cooked or uncook
Fruits
Leaves;water leaf, cocoyam leaves etc
Avoid acidic or concentrated base food for your snails
MARKETING ASPECT
They are several hotels willing to buy as much snails as possible on weekly basis
You can as well export your snails to a near by African countries or Europe
You can also sell them at market places in large quantities
